SINGAPORE - Jerry Ow (left) was appointed manager of the Family Life Society (FLS) on Mar 1. He will assist Father Charles Sim, SJ, who was appointed the president of FLS in September last year.
Before his baptism in Dec 1998, he spent four years as a General Manager following a military career of 20 years. "I was pretty old (at 49) but better late than never," he joked. He then became a business consultant, working from home. "I had plenty of time and that was when I began to serve at Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour," he said. He served as organist, funeral minister and Communion minister.
Mr Ow was invited to be one of the secretaries of the Archdiocesan Crisis Coordination Team(ACCT) last year. "God may have been preparing me for [this role in FLS] through ACCT," he mused, as it was ACCT convenor Willie Cheng who informed Mr Ow about the position at FLS. "I think I'm going to like this job," he said with a smile. â–
