Lynette Chen sells a book to a parishioner after the morning Mass. SINGAPORE - The youth council of the Church of Christ the King have been selling the "Life and Legacy of Pope John Paul II" before and after Masses at their parish to raise funds for the youth council.

But fund raising is not the only benefit that the youth enjoy. Theresa Yoong, the chairperson of the dinner and dance committee that coordinates the fund raising, said that the project sees different youth groups working together for a common cause. "The youth involved have become more open and confident in approaching others," she added.

The dinner and dance will take place at Suntec City Convention Hall on Dec 31.

In the parish of the Holy Trinity, about 500 books were sold in the first two weeks of sales, with another 200 in subsequent weeks, raising about $2,800 for the catechism programme.

The catechists roped in their families to be present at the weekend Masses to help sell the pictorial biography of the late pope. They packaged it as a Christmas gift. "It's suitable as a table gift, a memory to the pope," said Lawrence Nonis, the Confirmation programme coordinator of the parish. "The price is right, and the quality is good."
