SINGAPORE – CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls’ School celebrated its 75th anniversary on Jan 16. The school was founded in 1933.

The day’s celebrations was themed "Love one another and reach out to one another". Mass was celebrated by Redemptorist Father Simon Pereira in the school field and attended by teachers and some 3,100 students.

Father Simon reminded the teachers and students that CHIJ St. Nicholas is one of the best Catholic schools in Singapore and the Asian region. It is a community that Blessed Nicholas Barre started with just a handful of orphans. That same love and empathy is what would spur the students of St. Nicholas Girls to do great things for the school and for Singapore, he added.

As part of the day’s programme, principal Chan Wan Siong and school prefect Roxanne Sim washed each other’s feet as a sign of humility, service and "true love".

Ms Chan prayed that God would guide the family of CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls and reminded the students that "God has chosen us to be here and we are the here because he loves us"

Ruth Thien from Secondary One Justice said, " I feel happy to be in the St. Nicholas family, having a wonderful principal, teachers and friends who are always there in bad times and good times, supporting me and always lending me a shoulder to depend on." -By Rajiv Jude Illesinghe
