A YEAR-LONG series of events has been organized by the parish of Our Lady of Lourdes to celebrate both the apparitions of Our Lady at Lourdes 150 years ago and the 120th anniversary of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes.

The celebrations began with a rededication of the grotto followed by a candlelight procession on Dec 8, 2007. Feastday celebrations from Feb 9-17 this year included daily Novena and talks by priests on different aspects of the church. An exhibition was organized to showcase the history of the parish; and a food and funfair was held on Feb 17.

A procession will be held every 11th of the month as reminder that Our Lady first appeared to Bernadette Soubirous on Feb 11.

There will be prayers for the sick once a month to meet Rome’s granting of plenary indulgence for the 150th anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions at Lourdes.

Lourdes Catholic Festival of Praise, a concert of Marian hymns by Sir Peter Low.

Festival of Faith, an event focused on Mary. Amongst others, FMDM and FMM sisters are invited to set up booths to showcase materials on their work and ministry, and how they live their charism based on Mary. There will be brochures and literature about Mary on display, including those from Hindus who have special devotions to Our Lady. In line with ecumenism, the event is opened to all. n
