Of 13 children who took part, six were upper primary students and seven lower primary. They were judged on facial expression and body language, articulation and pronunciation, and creativity.
Primary Six student Tina A. Menachery impressed the judges with her animated retelling of how the Lord put Abraham to the test when he told Abraham to sacrifice his only son, Issac. Tina won the top prize for the upper primary category.Trevor Rodrigues, a Primary One participant, took the first prize for the lower primary category for his spirited account of the story of David and Goliath.
"This is the first time such a competition has been organized for the children since I took over this parish," said parish priest Father John Khoo. "I am glad that they now have a better knowledge of the stories from the Bible."
Several catechists and parents said that they were pleased with how the event turned out, and hoped that the competition would be held again next year. "Such competitions help the children to build up their confidence, so I will definitely get my students to take part in it again next year," said catechist Mei Ling. - By Thomas Lim
