SINGAPORE – Did you know? The original Church of St. Bernadette took only seven months of construction to be completed. It was built and furnished in 1959 at an approximate cost of $200,000, an economical budget even in the 1950s.
This is one titbit in the parish’s newly launched Golden Jubilee Book which traces and records the history of the church in the past five decades.
The 51-year-old parish has produced, from among its parishioners, several vocations – Fathers Anthony and Nicholas Ho, and Alfred Chan, as well as religious Sisters Magdalene Lee, Elizabeth Lim, Bernadette Yap, and Brother Benedict Hor.
The 150-page full-colour book also features voices from the past parish and assistant priests, long-time parishioners, and those for whom the church has a special place in their hearts. It also comes with a DVD containing exclusive footages of the church renovations, interviews with past parish priests and much more.
This coffeetable book priced at $30 is a must-have for all past and present parishioners of St. Bernadette.
