SINGAPORE - Some 1,200 doctors from all over the world attended the 22nd Congress of the World Federation of Catholic Medical Associations (FIAMC) in Barcelona, Spain from May 11-14.

The quadrennial gathering focused on "Catholic Doctors and the Challenge of Poverty in the Era of Globalization." Singapore was represented by Father Gino Henriques, CSsR (Ecclesiastical Advisor to Asian Federation), Father Colin Tan, SJ (Spiritual Advisor to Catholic Medical Guild), Father David Garcia, OP, Dr John Lee (Immediate Past President of Asian Federation and Catholic Medical Guild) and Dr Priscilla Lim.

Pope Benedict XVI sent a message exhorting Catholic doctors to defend the life of the most defenseless, especially the unborn, the elderly and the terminally ill and reminded them "to be aware of the close relationship between health care and the promotion of the human person."
