The celebration of the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity has been brought forward in Singapore because of the Lunar New Year holidays.

The special week is usually observed from Jan 18-25.

Because of the upcoming holidays, the Committee for Ecumenical Movement (CEM) of Singapore archdiocese requested permission from Archbishop Nicholas Chia and from Rome to bring it forward to Jan 15-22.

The theme for the 2012 Week of Prayer is “We will all be Changed by the Victory of Our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor 15: 51-58).

Two evenings of prayer, reflections, songs and fellowship will be held in two different churches.

The first will be held at the Lutheran Church of Our Re- deemer, 30 Duke’s Road, on Jan 16 at 8pm. The prayer and worship service will see representatives from various Christian traditions leading some of the prayers.

The second will be held at the Catholic Church of St Mary of the Angels, 5 Bukit Batok East Avenue 2, on Jan 19 at 8pm. The service will follow a similar format.

Archbishop Nicholas Chia will give the concluding blessing.

All are welcome to attend the ecumenical services.
