While the Covid-19 pandemic has brought about unprecedented challenges, it has also allowed the Catholic spirit to shine forth. An outpouring of community support came from individual donors, corporates, and community organisations to support Caritas Singapore’s work to empower the vulnerable and marginalised who live among us.

We have been blessed with an overflow of generosity from our current and new donors this year. The total amount raised during Charities Week 2020 was $7.37 million, an increase of about 6.7 percent from 2019. This is truly a reflection of the giving nature of Catholics in this time of pandemic.

Many more people have sought support during these uncertain times: our Caritas Singapore family will utilise the funds raised towards ensuring that our clients receive the necessary physical, emotional, and mental support to meet their current and emerging needs. We will also focus on continuing to deliver critical services beyond Covid-19.

Ms Christine Wong, Caritas’ Executive Director, was edified by the community spirit shown by the faithful from all walks of life who pitched in, in their own way, with their generous donations. On behalf of the Caritas Singapore family she said, “The charitable spirit of our Catholic family inspires us to work harder to reach out to those seeking help during this crisis, and to journey with them to empowerment. Thank you for sharing God’s love and blessings!”

Indeed, this pandemic has not dampened our spirit of caring and compassion, but instead has brought out the best in our Catholic faith!
