Of course, we strongly support our local musicians and choirs as well! Some have generously come forward with their music to be played on CatholicSG Radio. Our local musicians and songwriters like Corrinne May, Chris de Silva, Boni De Souza, Julie Sim, Trevor Nerva, Kenneth Ngo, Winnie Jane, Joseph Chng and Genevieve Toh are regularly featured. In fact, we make it a point to play at least two songs from our local artistes each hour of the day! Choirs that have shared their music with us include Novena Church’s Blessed Sarnelli, St Francis Xavier’s St Maximillian Kolbe and the Soli Deo Gloria Chorale from the Church of St Ignatius. In fact, the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour contributed songs from their 2001 musical production ‘The First Disciple’ based on the life of our Blessed Mother.
And if you tune in to the 3pm hour, you will also get to hear Chinese songs sung and produced by our Chinese community under the Archdiocesan Commission for Apostolate of Mandarin-Speaking! In fact, listen out for Fr Henry Siew as he sings a beautiful song for Singapore in the month of August when we celebrate National Day! This Chinese song for Singapore will debut on CatholicSG Radio on Aug 1 at 3.15pm immediately after the recitation of the Divine Mercy.
Interestingly, through our call out to ask listeners what their favourite song is, we have also gotten great suggestions on Spirit-filled songs that are uplifting and inspirational. Songs from international Catholic artistes are regularly sourced for inclusion in our music playlist so that we also provide exposure to great contemporary praise songs by Catholics for Catholics. These include Audrey Assad, Matt Maher, Jesse Manibusan, John Finch and many more. Familiar favourite artistes like Dan Schutte and John Michael Talbot are already very much part of the playlist!
So what can you, our listeners, do to help us grow our CatholicSG Radio? Well, we welcome you to donate your CDs of hymns and praise songs to us so that we can use them for our radio playlist. We are still growing our database of suitable songs and are appealing for people to donate suitable music for us to include. To donate your music, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details. Alternatively, you can also drop off your CDs at the Catholic News office located at 2 Highland Road, #01-03, Singapore 549102. If you want to share with us a favourite song that inspires you and brings you closer to God, simply send us a recording in either WAV or mp3 format to the same address above! If we have your song, you can be assured that we will play it for you. God bless you all!
