It was a letter from a Changi prison inmate that made her change her mind about not producing another collection of daily reflections for the next liturgical year.

Verbum Dei Sr Sandra Seow told CatholicNews that in March this year, she received a letter from a Changi prison inmate who had read her book of Gospel reflections for the current Liturgical Year A. He said the book helped him to deepen his love for God.

“The letter moved me deeply,” Sr Sandra told CatholicNews.

The nun said she had originally planned not to write reflections for Year B as she thought of “having a longer time to pray and reflect on the Gospel passages of Year C”.

However, positive feedback from readers, including a retired bishop from a neighbouring country, parents, students, and especially the prison inmate, made her change her mind.

“I started writing the reflections in March and finished in July,” she said. “In four amazing months, I finished writing a year worth of reflection with the grace of God!”

Sr Sandra said the second book in the Prayer for Living: The Word of God for Daily Prayer series is similar to her previous one. It contains daily Gospel readings and reflections, as well as questions to help people to meditate and apply the Gospel to their daily lives.

She thanked her editorial team “who dedicated their time and energy to help me, even though they are all very busy people”.

She said she hopes the reflections for Year B would “continue to speak and touch the lives of many more people, so that they can encounter God through His Word and live the Gospel message in their lives”.

Prayer for Living: The Word of God for Daily Prayer for Year B will be on sale in some parishes during weekend Masses in October and November. Cost: $20. Those who wish to place orders can also email [email protected] or call 6274-0251.
