The inaugural St Joseph’s Institution International Charity Golf event on Nov 6 raised $370,000 for the school’s needy students.
According to organisers, the sum exceeded the school’s initial target of $150,000.
The money will go towards the school’s Scholarship Fund.
A hundred and 144 golfers took on the 18 holes of the Tanjong Course at Sentosa Golf Club at the event.
It was followed by a dinner where guest-of-honour and former Singapore president S R Nathan presented the cheque to Mrs Lyn Sen, chairman of the charity golf organising committee.
Since opening in 2007, SJI International has disbursed 120 scholarships, equivalent to over $10 million. The school now has 1,600 students.
“SJI International is a totally private institution which receives no funding from the government,” said Mr Bradley Roberts, principal of SJI International High School. The school thus relies “on our community to support” the scholarship programme, he added.
