The Archbishop of Singapore need not despair even if his request to ban The Da Vinci Code movie has been rejected by the Media Development Authority.
He can still reach his flock in all the parishes through a pastoral letter to be read by his priests at the Saturday sunset and Sunday Masses strongly advising them to boycott the movie.
The Da Vinci Code through its blatant lies and errors blaspheme the Second Person of the Triune God, Jesus Christ and cast aspersions on the Catholic Church. It therefore makes no sense for Catholics to pay and see the movie even if it is only for the sake of entertainment. The money they intend to spend on the movie can instead be donated to the Church for the purpose of evangelisation.
Cardinal Francis Arinze, head of the liturgy congregation was right to say that we "must not just sit back and say it is enough for us to forgive and forget .... Sometimes it is our duty to do something practical." Catholics should not give a second thought but answer to the cardinal's call by boycotting the movie. This is something practical they can do in their personal capacity for the sake of our Faith.
