The New Evangelization Team (NET) School of Evangelization will celebrate its 25th anniversary on June 4 at the Church of St Bernadette. Archbishop Nicholas Chia will celebrate Mass for the occasion.

"It seems fitting that this anniversary should be celebrated" on the occasion of World Communications Day" for this is what NET is about communicating the love of Jesus to others" said NET vice chairman James Chan.

At the Mass, participants of NET’s 19th School, together with members of the Epiphany mission group from the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, who joined the school for some of its modules, will receive a special blessing from Archbishop Chia.

The occasion will also launch NET’s new branding. When NET was mooted in 1986 following the Catholic Youth Rally, there was little systematic formation for young adults and lay people interested in participating more fully in the mission and ministries of the Church. The curriculum therefore included faith formation topics and lasted around two years.
“Today, the diocese has many good courses on the faith, and so NET asked itself in what way it was unique in what it was offering to the laity. The answer was evangelisation!” said programme coordinator Elizabeth Tay.

The 20th School, which begins in mid-October, will begin with a deepening of faith experience to be followed by skills and experiences in evangelisation. The programme will last 12 months with perhaps an additional two weeks for mission exposure.
