COLOMBO – A Sri Lankan Catholic doctor and member of parliament recently entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest-running medical advice programme on television.

Dr Ruban Canistus Jayalath Jayawardena’s programme, Vaidya Hamuwa, has been regularly broadcast for 14 years and seven months, every Thursday on the TNL private channel.

His parish priest, Fr Srilal Fonseka, commended Dr Jayawardena’s work.

“He has run a number of free medical clinic programmes in the country and is an active member of the parish council,” said the priest of St Anne’s Church at Weligampitiya in Colombo archdiocese.

Dr Jayawrdene, 58, was elected to the Sri Lankan parliament for the opposition United National Party in 1994. - UCANEWS.COM
