The Pope's repeated efforts to send food and medical supplies to Poland have so far proved unsuccessful owing to Germany's opposition. The Pope offered to purchase the necessary food supplies in Ihe United States, have them conveyed in Italian vessels to any neutral port chosen by Germany, and have them distributed by the Italian or Swiss Red Cross under German supervision.
