SINGAPORE - Sixty Liturgy of the Word facilitators for children gathered at Church of Christ the King for their annual gathering and 15th anniversary celebrations on Aug 13.
Right, children liturgy facilitators receive candles lit with the fire of God's love as they renew their baptismal vows. The ceremony was followed by their commissioning.
The facilitators, who were from eight parishes, were guided by Sister Genevieve Ng in their discussions on how they carry out their ministry. Effort put into this ministry now will surely contribute towards the future of the church, said Lena Quek from the Holy Family parish.
However, all is not easy going in the ministry; there are "logistics and resource challenges", facilitators agreed. Patricia Tan from the Church of the Holy Spirit hoped that Children's Liturgy will receive more support from priests "since we are serving a long-term need in the community".
Facilitators also hoped for more parental involvement, especially from parents of young children.
The afternoon's activities included a reflection by Father Peter Koh, a renewal of baptismal promises, the commissioning of children liturgists, and a children's liturgy workshop that provided an opportunity for the facilitators to share ideas on how different parishes deliver their liturgy to the children.
The annual gathering has helped to forge a sense of solidarity across different parishes, and "deepens one's conviction to persevere in Christ's ministry of spreading the Word," shared Helen Chia, coordinator of the Church of the Holy Family team.
