Putting fun into preschool education
Preschool educators doing a Zumba workout.
When 75 Catholic preschool educators congregated at Catholic Kindergarten, a preschool managed by the Marist Brothers, it was to learn about the educational approaches and practices of the kindergarten. It was for them to deepen their professional knowledge.
But in learning, there should also be an element of fun. And, the educators found themselves getting an exhilarating Zumba workout as part of the programme on Dec 28. They also went through a dance routine with the aim of enhancing team work.
Participants also learnt from renowned art therapist Dr Daphna Arbell-Kehila how art can be used to connect with children on an enhanced level.
Many said they were enthusiastic about adapting this for their classroom sessions to create an environment where children learn by interacting in an enjoyable way.

Father Edward Seah, Executive Director of the Archdiocesan Commission for Catholic Schools (ACCS), also celebrated a Thanksgiving Mass. As it was the Feast of the Holy Innocents, he stressed in his homily the importance for educators to devote the utmost care to the many young children entrusted to them.
