VanLieshout.jpgSINGAPORE - The Sacred Hearts Fathers will celebrate a special Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church at 8pm on Jun 15 in thanksgiving for the beatification of Father Eustachius van Lieshout (1890-1943) of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. He will be declared "Blessed" on Jun 15.

He follows Blessed Damien of Molokai (beatified in 1995) who was his great example. Father Eustachius van Lieshout was a Dutch member of the Congregation. He was ordained a priest in 1919. After doing pastoral work in Holland, he was sent to Brazil in 1925, where he worked till his death in 1943.

What was special about him was his care for the sick and those in need. He was not an extraordinary person, but a religious who, from a real evangelical inspiration, assisted countless people in body and soul.

The beatification will take place in Belo Horizonte, where he worked the last two years of his life and where he was buried.
