Mdm. Martha Zhang Pinxian, mother of Fr Peter Zhang CDD passed away on 30 June 2016 in Beijing at 1.20pm Beijing local time.

She was 71 years old and had been admitted to hospital for the past month.

Fr Peter Zhang CDD had taken home leave to be with his mother this past month. In his words, “I thank God for giving me the opportunity to journey with my mum for the past one month, after almost 20 years of separation since I started the religious life. For the past 27 days, I really had quality time with her. Everyday talking to her, holding her hands, giving her Holy Communion.”

Fr Peter Zhang CDD describes his mother as a “kindhearted and sacrificial housewife with strong faith in God and a spirit of fortitude.”

Fr Peter also commented how his mother found comfort in her last days with a letter sent from Archbishop William Goh DD and she reminded her son Fr Peter to be a good priest and to serve God.

The family is awaiting the return of his sister and her family from the United States. Funeral arrangements have been finalized for 6 July at 11am in Beijing.

The Archdiocese extends condolences to Fr Peter Zhang CDD and his family at this time of loss and assures him of our fraternal prayers and support.
