CatholicNews correspondent Mel Diamse-Lee leaves after a decade of service

MEL DIAMSE-LEE whose byline graced so many articles in Catholic News has moved on to tend other fields - her family the most important among them. Mel has three lovely children aged two to 10 whom she adores and who need more of her time and motherly attention.

"We will miss Mel," says Father Johnson Fernandez, managing editor of CatholicNews, who worked closely with Mel during the 10 years she was with the archdiocesan newspaper. "Mel developed a valuable network of people who contributed to CatholicNews through news reports, photography and feedback," Father Johnson added. "People were comfortable relating to Mel."

In an email to her CatholicNews-related friends and associates, Mel said, "I will be leaving CatholicNews with a tinge of sadness because I love my work and I derive a great deal of satisfaction from it." She said that during the 10 years at CatholicNews, she "felt my faith and values challenged and enriched because of what I witnessed in the church, as an observer and an active participant."

"I also leave CatholicNews with tremendous anticipation for what God has in store for me in the secular world," Mel added. "At the same time that I felt the desire to spend more time with my growing children I felt compelled to share with the world the Catholic values I hold with tenacity and that the church helped to enrich."

"Finally, I leave CatholicNews affirmed and encouraged that I am making the right move," Mel confided. "Since I stated my intention to resign, God has been showing me how great and generous he is as a provider," she said. Mel's colleagues at CatholicNews wish her all the best in her new journey. Meanwhile, CatholicNews is looking for someone to replace Mel.
