Church of the Transfiguration fundraising dinner
A fundraising gala dinner for the building fund of the Church of the Transfiguration (COTT) was held at the Fairmont Ballroom on Jan 17.
About 1,700 Catholics came together to show their support by raising $827,180. The amount was raised through table sales for the dinner and an auction.
Among those who attended were guest-of-honour Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, Archbishop William Goh and Msgr Philip Heng.
In his speech, Archbishop Goh emphasised the shared responsibility of building God’s Church. He noted that although churches in Singapore are well attended, the costs of land rental and construction are high.
Archbishop Goh went on to encourage all Catholics to support the Church of the Transfiguration in their fundraising efforts. To date, $10 million of the $60 million needed have been raised.
Other highlights of the evening included a silent and reverse auction which raised almost $300,000. The second part of the evening took on a touch of elegance when Fivera, a pop-opera quintet from Thailand, took to the stage to perform a repertoire of pop-opera hits like Phantom of the Opera, Con te partiro, Hallelujah and The Prayer.
The next fundraising event organised by the Church of the Transfiguration is the philanthropic golf and dinner event to be held at Tanah Merah Country Club, on March 31. For more information, please visit: www.transfiguration.sg or call 6341 9718.
